Coach looking to raid flying Rams
2:00pm Thursday 16th February 2012
WOODRUSH head coach Lee Wainwright is hoping the enforced break won’t have affected his team’s good form, as they prepare for Saturday’s Midlands Three West (South) trip to second-placed Shipston-on-Stour.
The Icknield Street side, who currently sit in fourth spot, go into the clash on the back of three comprehensive wins.
However, that momentum was stopped in the past fortnight due to the recent cold snap which has prevented Woodrush from taking to the field prior to this Rams clash.
“The weather has been frustrating,” said Wainwright.
“We were on a really good run and I am hoping our two-week break hasn’t damaged our momentum.
“We have still got the buzz around the place but the more we play together the better we will get.
“I am looking forward to an open game against Shipston, they like to play quite openly.
“We ruffled their feathers at home when we lost narrowly to them.”
Richard Thomas is available again after the birth of his child a fortnight ago, while Ed Lerner is set to be out for at least another two weeks as he requires knee surgery.
Wainwright added: “We probably worked harder than any team over Christmas and that has led to our good results.
“The most pleasing aspect has been the we’ve kept clean sheets over the last three games and that more than anything is an indication of how well we were playing.”
Meanwhile, Kings Norton entertain mid-table rivals Keresley in Hopwood on Saturday, aiming to leapfrog their opponents.
Bottom side Redditch could also do Kings Norton a favour as well by beating Southam at home on Saturday.
The Warwickshire outfit are just below Kings Norton in a tightly-packed mid-table.
Redditch, who have also not played since losing 40-0 at home to Woodrush two weeks ago, are looking for their first league win of 2012.
The clash against Shipston, which was rescheduled for Saturday after it was forced off, was postponed again at the weekend because of a frozen pitch.
